Things along the lines of "Was everyone back then on crack??" or more articulately "Why would anyone in this nation disallow any person from the pursuit of happiness if it is harming absolutely no one?"Jillnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4933657345140990360.post-87836562540124461492010-03-23T20:31:31.073-04:002010-03-23T20:31:31.073-04:00I think the fact that people are becoming better e...I think the fact that people are becoming better educated-sticking with school is definitely an indicator of the changing times. When our grandparents and (to some extent) our parents were our age you could get a good paying job with benefits and a reasonable amount of security right out of high school. For many of them you did not even need a diploma. Now if you don't have at least a high school diploma you are very limited in the types of jobs you can get. I have found that what i *got* my college degree in does not matter. The fact that I completed one seems to be enough. When I asked one of my bosses about it, he told me that it meant that I had to be focused, dedicated and have some degree of intelligence/competence. Also, if I were a young adult who was considering dropping out of college/skipping grad school and looking for a job, I might take a look at the current job market and reconsider and go for those advanced degrees. <br />I want to think that people are staying in school longer because they value education, but my cynical side thinks that it is primarily the *financial* value and not the love of knowledge for most.Audranoreply@blogger.com
