Thursday Resource: Programming for Young Adults, Summer 2010

For Unitarian Universalist young adults looking for ways to spend the summer connecting with---and learning from---other UUs, there are a variety of opportunities available in venues all over the country. Below is a guide to programming offered by organizations affiliated with the UUA.

INTERNSHIP AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center in Highlands, North Carolina offers residential internships, lasting between three and twelve moths, for young adults ages 18 to 30 interested in "gain[ing] professional skills related to their career goals" while "work[ing] with others to bring peace-building, meaning, social justice, and environmental ethics to the center of their communities." Unirondack, a Unitarian Universalist camp and conference center located in upstate New York, is looking for young adults to fill several staff positions for summer 2010. To apply, and to learn more about Unirondack, click here.

CAMPS, CONFERENCES, AND WORKSHOPS -- JUNE

WUULF (the Western UU Life Festival), an annual gathering of UUs at Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico, will take place this year from June 14th to 20th. In 2010, for the first time, WUULF is offering young adult programming! To learn more about it, click here.

The Star Island Young Adult Conference (Dream/scape) will take place this year from June 12th to June 19th off the coast of New Hampshire. To register, click here. To learn more about the other Star Island 2010 conferences that might be of interest to young adults, click here.

General Assembly 2010 will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota from June 23rd to 27th. (To register visit the UUA's GA website. CAMPS, CONFERENCES, AND WORKSHOPS -- JULY

The "New Human Rights" workshop, facilitated by UUSC President Charlie Clements, will take place at Camp UniStar in Cass Lake, Minnesota, from June 26th to June 3rd. For information on other programming provided by the camp, click here.

OMDSI (The Ohio-Meadville Summer Institute) will take place at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, from July 11th to July 17th. For more information about the type of programming the Institute has provided in past years for young adults, click here. To connect with OMDSI  on Facebook, click here.

CAMPS, CONFERENCES, AND WORKSHOPS -- AUGUST

"Filling the Well," a weekend of programming designed specifically for women ages 18 to 35, will take place at Ferry Beach in Maine (as part of the "In the Company of UU Women Conference") from August 14th to 16th. For more information, click here and scroll down to "Filling the Well."

The Mountain Institute for Social Change (affiliated with The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center in Highlands, North Carolina) will be hosting a conference titled "Kindling the Common Fire of Commitment Citizenship and Leadership in the 21st Century" from August 5th to August 8th.
